Efficient computation of forces on dislocation segments in anisotropic elasticity

چکیده
We compare several alternative approaches for computing the stress field of a straight dislocation segment and its forces on other segments in an anisotropic linear elastic medium. The Willis–Steeds–Lothe expression can be implemented faster than Brown’s formula and the matrix formalism is only slightly faster than the integral formalism. Expressions for self-stress and selfforce are also explicitly derived. As an example, the critical stress to activate a Frank–Read source is computed as a function of its length in both isotropic and anisotropic materials. Displacement Fields Influence Analysis Caused by Dislocation Networks at a Three Layer System Interfaces on the Surface Topology
This work consists in a numerically evaluation of elastic fields distribution, caused by intrinsic dislocation networks placed at a nanometric trilayers interfaces, in order to estimate their influence on the surface topology during heterostructure operation. The organization of nanostructures is ensured by the knowledge of different elastic fields caused by buried dislocation networks and calc...
متن کاملComputing dislocation stress fields in anisotropic elastic media using fast multipole expansions
The calculation of stress fields due to dislocations and hence the forces they exert on each other is the most time consuming step in dislocation dynamics (DD) simulations. The fast multipole method (FMM) can reduce the computational cost at each simulation step from O(N) to O(N) for an ensemble of N dislocation segments. However, FMM has not yet been applied to three dimensional DD simulations...
متن کاملElastic energy of a straight dislocation and contribution from core tractions
We derive an expression of the core traction contribution to the dislocation elastic energy within linear anisotropic elasticity theory using the sextic formalism. With this contribution, the elastic energy is a state variable consistent with the work of the Peach-Koehler forces. This contribution needs also to be considered when extracting from atomic simulations core energies. The core energi...
متن کاملComputation of Slip analysis to detect adhesion for protection of rail vehicle and derailment
Adhesion level for the proper running of rail wheelset on track has remained a significant problem for researchers in detecting slippage to avoid accidents. In this paper, the slippage of rail wheels has been observed applying forward and lateral motions to slip velocity and torsion motion. The longitudinal and lateral forces behavior is watched with respect to traction force to note correlatio...
متن کاملSelf-force on dislocation segments in anisotropic crystals.
A dislocation segment in a crystal experiences a 'self-force', by virtue of the orientation dependence of its elastic energy. If the crystal is elastically isotropic, this force is manifested as a couple acting to rotate the segment toward the lower energy of the pure screw orientation (i.e. acting to align the dislocation line with its Burgers vector). If the crystal is anisotropic, there are ...
